Ambient, Electronic, Instrumental
Nick Schofield is a musician, producer and radio host with a BFA in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University. Nick has lived in Los Angeles, Detroit, Düsseldorf and Montreal, but calls Ottawa home and has been deeply ingrained in the Canadian independent music scene since 2005. Having performed and recorded across Canada with music projects ranging from ambient to jazz to dance, Schofield kicked off his solo career in 2018 with the release of Water Sine on Halifax experimental label Backward Music. His dulcet instrumental music is comprised of keyboards and field recordings, which Paste Magazine described as “soothing and pellucid, meditative and transportive.” Schofield’s calming compositions beckon for tranquility and release, offering softness and simplicity. While Nick's solo project began at his home studio as an antidote to insomnia, the music has flourished on stage as a serene concert experience, often presented in resonant and reverent spaces. In concert, Nick Schofield has performed at notable venues and festivals including National Sawdust in New York City, the Getty Center in Los Angeles and MUTEK in Montreal, opening for acclaimed artists such as Angel Olsen, Colin Stetson, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Hauschka and Sarah Davachi. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre, received mentorship from Radwan Ghazi Moumneh and accompanied Wet’suwe’ten activist/singer Molly Wickham on stage. In spring 2020, Schofield will be launching his sophomore solo album Sound Mind with Backward Music.
