Flower Face is the music project of 21-year- old Ruby Mckinnon. Writing songs in her bedroom since she was a high school freshman, Flower Face blossomed out of the Internet. A classically trained pianist and fervent journal writer, growing up in the digital age of Instagram, YouTube and music streaming, Mckinnon very quickly learned how to market and grow her bedroom project from a daydream to a healthy 7 million streams across online platforms. She did this without a label, a manager, or any industry guidance. Her approach was simple and can be summed up in one word: authenticity. Mckinnon’s words are taken straight from her journal, no matter how personal or raw the memory. Her lyrics explore the often dark and confusing reality of being a young person in the world today: love, heartbreak, loss, and the constant battle of identity. Pre-COVID isolation, Flower Face had been busy in the studio working with JUNO Award winning producer Alex Bonenfant (July Talk, METZ, Crystal Castles) on her forthcoming third LP.
