Skye Wallace is what happens when a trained singer with folk roots discovers punk rock in their youth and writes music that makes you feel excited. The evolution of Skye’s music is not an unfamiliar one – when she began performing it was with an acoustic guitar and folk-based songs, telling the stories of times past. As her sound and performances developed, she found herself drawn to the outspoken sounds of icons such as Patti Smith and The Clash, unabashedly making statements and making noise. This punk rock ethos began working its way into her songs, and eventually lead to trading acoustic sounds for electric ones, and performing with a full five piece rock band. While there are still quieter moments of reflection, Skye’s most recent self-titled album (released June 2019) takes her straight into the heart of alt-rock territory, where her fierce vocals and powerful energy take center stage. Her exciting live show has landed her on stages around the world, from Halifax Pop Explosion to Reeperbahn Festival, and multiple tours across Canada, Italy and Germany. Her single “There Is A Wall”, about the frustrations of women fighting against the glass ceiling, broke the top 40 Canadian alternative radio charts, while the album was named one of the “Best 4 Canadian Albums in the World” by the Globe and Mail. 2020 will see the release of Skye’s first album with Six Shooter Records, and the return to Germany and the UK, as this talented artist continues to kick ass and take up space.
